Many flights in Germany had to divert after an unidentified flying object was detected near the Leipzig - Halle airport runway.

According to AFP, German police on August 5 (local time) said that operations at Leipzig - Halle airport were interrupted overnight after reports of an unidentified flying object appearing near the airport area and runway.

Some flights, including 1 passenger flight, had to divert to other airports after a flying object was detected near the airport area.

Functional forces then deployed robots to clear bombs and mines to inspect objects discovered near the southern runway of the airport.

Regular flight operations at the airport were resumed in the early morning of August 5, but only on the northern runway. The southern runway was still closed on the same morning to serve investigation and safety assurance.

Leipzig - Halle Airport in eastern Germany plays an important role in the transportation of military goods, including goods from the German army and NATO member countries, and is also the operating base of Antonov Airlines of Ukraine.

Previously, Germany and some other European countries had repeatedly recorded UAVs appearing in locations such as airports, military bases and industrial facilities.
