According to Xinhua News Agency, the Philippine Ministry of Education has requested all primary and secondary schools nationwide to organize safe drills on August 25 (local time).
Local media reported that public and private schools have to implement this activity amid growing concerns after shootings occurred at schools recently.
Schools are required to develop, review and update proactive attack response plans, and share the approved plans with local authorities, the Philippine National Police, and the parents-teacher association.
The move was made after a series of shootings at schools in the Philippines since the beginning of the year killed and injured many students, increasing public pressure, demanding that the government strengthen measures to ensure school safety.
