King Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema paid a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Politburo member and President Luong Cuong and his wife.
At Noi Bai International Airport, the delegation was welcomed by: Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Dao Ngoc Dung; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong and representatives of the Office of the President, representatives of relevant units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Accompanying King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and the Queen on State visits to Vietnam were: Venerable Sangay Dorji, Central Council of Bhutan; Mr. D.N.Dhungyel, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Bhutan; Mr. Namgyal Dorji, Minister of Industry, Trade and Employment of Bhutan; Mr. Dasho Ugyen K. Namgyel, Government Assistant; Mr. Sonam Wangyel, General Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Bhutan; Mr. Karma Wangchuk, General Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Bhutan; Mr. Kinzang Dorji, Ambassador of Bhutan to Thailand concurrently holds Vietnam.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 2012, Vietnam has always attached importance to its relationship with Bhutan, considering Bhutan one of the leading countries in implementing the green growth target, maintaining "happy" indicators.
Meanwhile, Bhutan always considers Vietnam as one of the priority countries to promote bilateral relations as well as wishes to learn from Vietnam's development experience.
Senior leaders of the two countries regularly exchange phone calls on each other's important holidays.
Recently, the two countries have made efforts to strengthen economic and trade cooperation. Vietnam mainly exports to Bhutan wood products, machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts and some other goods.
Vietnam currently has 2 investment projects in Bhutan with a total registered capital of 937,000 USD.
Bhutan wishes to import Vietnamese goods such as agricultural products, consumer goods, garments, food, electronics, etc., encourage Vietnamese enterprises to invest in the Gelephu Mindfulness City Special Economic Zone of Bhutan and expand cooperation in connection, tourism, spirituality, culture, Buddhism... between the two countries.
The two countries still have great potential in cooperation in agriculture, tourism, culture, education, science - technology, digital transformation and green development.
At multilateral forums, the two countries regularly coordinate closely, support each other and continue to strengthen cooperation, especially the United Nations, the ASEAN (AIPA), the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) ... as well as in regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The State visit to Vietnam by King Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema is an important event in the relationship between the two countries.
