The Indian Express reported that the horrific accident occurred at the hindustan Shipyard Limited shipyard in Visakhapatnam city, Andhra Pradesh state, India.
The massive 70-ton crane was built by Anupam Cranes, a company based in Mumbai, two years ago but has yet to be operated. At noon on August 1, while about 20 workers were checking the load-bearing capacity of the shaft, the collapse occurred. All 10 people in the crane cabin at the time and an unidentified person were killed, city officials said.
hindustanTimes quoted the latest report as saying that rescue efforts are being carried out with the support of the police force and shipbuilding plant staff. The injured workers were taken to the hospital. Three bodies were taken away from the scene and were crushed, the rest were believed to have been crushed.
