On November 18, the China National Petroleum Pipeline Network Corporation announced that the eastern route of the Russia-China gas pipeline has completed construction and entered the final stage of test operation.
The final section of the China-Russia gas pipeline was completed seven months ahead of schedule.
Russian gas is expected to be supplied to Shanghai households by the end of this year after Chinese workers complete construction of the final section of a gas pipeline between Russia and China, Chinese state television said.
The gas pipeline connecting Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China bordering Russia and Shanghai metropolis in eastern China will soon be fully operational after the southernmost section connecting Jiangsu and Shanghai was officially completed, CCTV reported.
The 5,111-km pipeline is a flagship project aimed at deepening economic ties between China and its resource-rich neighbor. It will provide “a stable supply of gas” to 130 million households each year.
The project, billed as having the world's largest single-pipeline capacity, will "make an important contribution to optimizing China's energy consumption structure, promoting green transformation and helping achieve dual-carbon targets," CCTV said.
China aims to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
The Intra-China pipeline connects to a 3,000-km stretch of the Power of Siberia pipeline in Russia's far east. The Intra-China pipeline has been partially operational since five years ago and has since been expanded southward.
