On August 21, Catalan police announced on Twitter the conduct of a campaign in Subirats, 45 km west of Barcelona. "A man in Subirats was wearing an explosives belt. This name was destroyed," said the police. El Pais newspaper reported that this name cried "Allahu Akbar" before being shot down.
According to El Mundo, a witness confirmed that the man wearing the explosives belt was killed by Younes Abouyaaquob, who was suspected of being the driver who crashed into a truck on the Las Ramblas Boulevard a few days earlier.
According to this page, the suspect was seen appearing near a gas station in Amatoil. A woman called the police about a suspicious strange man in the area.
Catalan police later confirmed on Twitter: "The man shot dead in Subirats was Younes Abouyaaqoub, the author of the Barcelona terrorist attack."
The police blocked the road to the scene. A robot was sent to the scene before the police approached Abouyaaqoub's body. The explosives that have been removed from the body of this person have not yet been confirmed to be real or fake.
A total of 15 people died in the terrorist attacks in Catalonia since August 17, including 13 in the attack on Las Ramblas, and another in the attack on the resort town Cambrils on the same day. On the morning of August 21, police said that while on the run, Younes Abouyaaqoub killed another man to steal a car.
Abouyaaqoub was identified as one of 12 members of the terrorist group that caused the bloody attack in Barcelona. After the terrorist attack on August 17, the police released photos of Younes Abouyaaqoub and searched for information about his hiding place and warned him that he could seek to flee across the border to France.
"The name of this truck driver is a very dangerous element and can be equipped with weapons. This name is wanted for his involvement in the attack in Las Ramblas, Barcelona on August 17," the Catalan law enforcement agency warned.
