At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa and his wife are on an official visit to Vietnam from February 23-25, 2025.
On the morning of February 24, at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son held talks with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa.
The two Ministers expressed their delight at seeing the strengthened strategic partnership between the two countries developing deeply and substantially, on the basis of mutual respect, trust and mutual benefit. On that basis, the two sides agreed to closely coordinate together to effectively implement important areas of bilateral cooperation, towards bringing the bilateral relationship to a new height.
The two sides agreed to continue promoting delegation exchanges and contacts at high and all levels; effectively implementing bilateral cooperation mechanisms; and at the same time committed to further strengthening cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries, including considering establishing a connection channel between specialized units to discuss issues of mutual concern.
The two sides supported the strengthening of bilateral defense and security cooperation; agreed to cooperate in preventing and combating transnational crimes and cybercrime as well as preventing fraudulent organizations from sending people to third countries for work; reaffirmed their commitment not to allow any individual or organization to use the territory of one country to fight against another.
Discussing the fields of economy, trade and investment, the two Ministers agreed to continue to strive to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to the target of 25 billion USD by facilitating trade in goods, expanding access to each country's markets, and limiting the application of trade defense measures for each other's goods; enhancing cooperation in new areas such as digital economy, e-commerce and green energy.

The two sides agreed to coordinate to promote the benefits of the "Three Connections" Strategy through effectively implementing the contents of connecting supply chains, connecting businesses and localities, and connecting sustainable growth strategies of each country.
The two Ministers supported the effective exploitation of road and waterway transport routes; increased the number of flights connecting Vietnam and Thailand; studied measures to strengthen tourism cooperation, including Thailand's "Sex countries, one destination" initiative; promoted cooperation in education, agriculture, culture and people-to-people exchange.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son thanked the Thai Government for supporting the formation of Vietnamese Street in Udon Thani province and in the near future, another Vietnamese Street in Nakhon Phanom province; suggested that the two sides continue to cooperate to preserve and promote the value of President Ho Chi Minh relic sites and Vietnamese pagodas in Thailand; actively implement Thai and Vietnamese language teaching programs in each country; encourage the building of cooperative and connectative relations between provinces and cities of both sides.
Regarding regional and international cooperation, the two sides affirmed to continue to closely coordinate with each other in multilateral and regional mechanisms; strengthen solidarity, unity and promote ASEAN's central role; prioritize sub-regional development cooperation in the Southeast Asian region, manage and sustainably use Mekong River water resources; emphasize the importance of maintaining peace, stability, safety, maritime security and aviation in the East Sea on the basis of international law, including UNCLOS 1982.
