The new facility has produced the first batch of missiles, BrahMos Aerospace co-director Aleksandr Maksichev shared with Russian media. He added that the production of "the second batch is underway".
India has 4 BrahMos missile production facilities, the remaining 3 are located in Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram in southern India and Pilani in Rajasthan state northwest India.
Mr. Maksichev said that putting the Lucknow facility into operation has significantly increased both the speed and production capacity of BrahMos missiles.
Named after the Brahmaputra and Moscow rivers, BrahMos is one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world. This missile was used by India in a military clash with Pakistan last year.
Since then, global interest in this missile has increased. New Delhi has sold this weapon to several Asian countries and is negotiating with Indonesia and the UAE.
BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between Indian and Russian defense manufacturers and achieved record revenue in the previous fiscal year.
