Houthi claims to intercept two Saudi Arabian F-15 fighters
On September 16 (local time), Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree announced that this force had successfully intercepted two F-15 fighter jets of the Saudi Royal Air Force in the airspace of Taiz province, southwest Yemen.
According to Mr. Saree, these two fighters were aimed at by multiple homemade anti-aircraft missiles immediately after departing from Saudi Arabia's Khamis Mushait airbase. The air defense strike forced enemy aircraft to immediately retreat from combat airspace.
The war situation in Yemen has seriously escalated since the beginning of September after the Houthi launched a major offensive in the southwest region of the country.
United Nations ready to act as a bridge for US-Iran talks
Answering a question from a TASS news agency reporter at New York headquarters on September 16 (local time), UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres affirmed that the organization can organize peace talks between the US and Iran, but the conflicting parties must make their own decisions whether to sit at the negotiating table or not.
We can only organize what the parties are really willing to do," the head of the United Nations emphasized when asked about the possibility of arranging a bilateral meeting between US and Iranian negotiators during the 2026 United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week.
The United Nations headquarters in New York will be the venue for the Joint Discussion Session of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly from September 22 to 26 and September 28.
Fed raises interest rates for the first time in 3 years
At the end of the meeting on September 16, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) decided to raise the base interest rate by 0.25 percentage points to a range of 3.75% - 4.00%.
This is the first interest rate hike by this agency since 2023 to curb prolonged inflation, despite demands to lower interest rates from President Donald Trump.
The Fed's Summary of Economic Forecasts (SEP) shows that the interest rate hike cycle may not be over yet. Most policymakers predict there will be at least another wave of interest rate hikes before the end of 2026.
Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh expressed confidence in the resilience of the US economy, saying that the labor market and growth are still solid enough to absorb tighter monetary conditions.
