On September 15 (local time), according to TASS, former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that US allies in the Middle East are disappointed with Washington's ability to ensure their security.
“That, unfortunately, is sending a message to our partners in the region that they cannot necessarily rely on the US when we need to protect them. They are all trying to dialogue with Tehran, possibly reaching an agreement with Tehran,” Mr. Blinken said.
According to Mr. Blinken, there is currently no good military solution to the conflict, except for the possibility of launching a full-scale invasion of Iran, but this would be "a disaster".
Despite all the damage we have caused, they still have more weapons and continue to produce more. There is no feasible military path to solve the problem; diplomacy is the path to take," the former US Secretary of State said.
In a previous commentary in Time magazine, Mr. Hisham Ahmed Hellyer, senior expert at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), said that the Gulf countries are seeking to reduce dependence on the US, while expanding relations with partners in the region.
According to Mr. Hellyer, the Gulf countries are adjusting their approach to security and foreign relations issues.
Mr. Blinken's statement was made in the context that security and relations with Iran continue to be a major concern in the Middle East. Mr. Blinken believes that in the current situation, diplomacy is the direction to be pursued to find a solution to the conflict related to Iran.
