The latest cable break in the Baltic Sea occurred on January 2nd and Latvian investigators boarded the ship involved in the incident on January 4th. Information released by Latvian police.
The Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center informed that the cable break occurred with cables running from Sventoji in Lithuania to Liepaja in Latvia, two coastal towns about 65km apart. The cause of the incident is currently unknown.
Currently, both the ship and crew have not been arrested, they are cooperating with the police, and the investigation to clarify the situation is still ongoing" - Latvian police said.
Latvian police did not provide further information about the ship or the context of the cable break.
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina confirmed that the cable break occurred near Liepaja. "The incident did not affect Latvian communication service users" - she informed on social network X.
