On January 10, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement stating that, at the invitation of Politburo member and Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin will pay an official visit to Vietnam from January 14 to 15, 2025.

On January 30, 2025, Vietnam and the Russian Federation will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union and now the Russian Federation (January 30, 1950 - January 30, 2025).

The two countries established a Strategic Partnership in 2001 and a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2012. Bilateral relations have increasingly developed comprehensively, both in breadth and depth.

Vietnam is the first country to sign a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), of which Russia is a member. Vietnam is Russia's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia. Russia is one of Vietnam's top five trading partners in Europe.

The two countries also have investment projects in each other, including important fields and Russia's strengths such as energy, science and technology, education and training... Besides, Vietnam and Russia also have many forms of cooperation in the fields of defense and security.

Speaking at a press conference on the results of the development of the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on December 26, 2024 in Hanoi, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko expressed his satisfaction with the expansion of bilateral relations at various levels, including the highest level, over the past year. The key event was the State visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Vietnam in June 2024, creating a clear impetus for cooperation between agencies of the two countries.

The results achieved in 2024 clearly demonstrate the common spirit of the two sides in promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as the closeness or coincidence of the two countries' views on current issues of the regional and international agenda.

Ambassador Bezdetko affirmed that Russia is ready to expand practical cooperation with Vietnam in many fields and hopes that traditional cooperation between the two sides will be enhanced on the basis of agreements at the highest and high levels.
