The founder of the US defense corporation Anduril, Mr. Palmer Luckey, has just posted a photo with a caption on social networks, saying that he is "not convinced that China's J-35 can be compared to real goods", to mock the fact that this fighter model has an appearance somewhat similar to the US F-35.
Mr. Luckey made the above comment after attending the 10th Singapore Airshow. He posted a personal photo of himself using a ruler to measure the J-35A model's wings at the exhibition booth of the China Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC).
This statement quickly caused controversy on international social networking platforms, with many netizens mocking the comments of founder Anduril.
Recalling the incident in January 2022, when a US Navy F-35C fighter jet fell into the sea while landing on the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier, a netizen sarcastically said: "At least the J-35 is not as submersible as the F-35C.
Chinese military expert Zhang Xuefeng said that Mr. Luckey's action was "lack of professionalism" and "more performance-oriented". According to him, using a tape measure to measure a J-35A model cannot tell anything about the actual performance of this fighter.
Mr. Luckey probably used a tape measure to measure the length, wingspan and other sizes of the J-35A, and then deduced the actual size by converting ratios, such as wing area. In fact, China has publicly and confidently announced some of these data, so that action is completely unnecessary" - expert Zhang noted.
The expert believes that although Mr. Luckey's behavior may seem ridiculous, it also shows that foreign observers are closely monitoring China's advanced fighters, considering them as a subject of research, comparison, and even a standard to learn from.
Meanwhile, the chief expert of the J-35A design institute and a fellow at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Technology, Mr. Wang Yongqing, said that Anduril has absolutely no experience in developing manned fighters. This company has only designed a low-cost combined unmanned combat aircraft called YFQ-44A and is basically still a newcomer in the field of fighter design.
Accordingly, Mr. Wang affirmed that founder Anduril "is not qualified to judge China's stealth fighters".
According to Chinese media reports, at the 10th Singapore Airshow taking place from February 3-8, China's new generation J-35A medium-sized multirole stealth fighter was the focus at the AVIC booth.
Although only a 1:2 scale model, the J-35A still became a star of this year's exhibition, attracting a large number of visitors to stop to watch and discuss. Along with typical products such as the J-20, Z-20, Y-20 - the core of China's "20 aircraft line" - and the J-10CE, the aircraft that recorded the first actual combat results abroad last year, the J-35A creates a systematic picture of China's air-defense capabilities.
