Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and officials at the opening ceremony of the new national stadium in Tokyo on December 15.
Prime Minister Abe praised the effort to complete the stadium 7 months before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Built on the site of the old national stadium used for the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, the new stadium has 5 floors above ground and 2 underground floors, with a series of trees planted to provide shade under the burning summer sunlight.
The total construction cost, including design and supervision costs, is up to 156.9 billion (1.45 billion USD), within the budget.
The 68,000-seat stadium has roofs that cover the sun and help suck the wind inside. In addition, there are 8 fog sprayers, 185 fans and 16 air conditioning rooms.
Famous architect Kengo Kuma designed the stadium in traditional Japanese style, using a wooden roof, along with many trees, helping the stadium immerse itself in the surrounding environment in the center of Tokyo.
The stadium was also lowered to a height of 47m from the original design of 70m.
The iconic stadium of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2020 Paralympics Tokyo, taking place from 24.7-9.8.2020.
