RT quoted information from the Russian Defense Ministry saying that Ukraine has lost about 11,400 troops since launching an attack on Russia's Kursk province on August 6.
The Russian military also destroyed more than 1,000 units of Ukrainian military equipment, including 89 tanks, 42 infantry fighting vehicles, 74 armored personnel carriers, 635 armored fighting vehicles, 371 cars, 85 artillery pieces and 24 multiple rocket launchers, including seven US-made HIMARS systems, the Russian Defense Ministry said in an update on September 9.
In the past 24 hours alone, Ukraine has lost up to 240 servicemen and 13 pieces of equipment, according to the ministry's estimates.
Over the past day, Russian ground forces, supported by artillery and air power, repelled three Ukrainian attacks near the settlements of Mikhailovka, Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Desyatoye Octyabrya.
Kiev troops tried to advance towards the villages of Malaya Loknya, Korenevo, Kremyanoye and Martynovka, but were also repelled, the statement added.
"Reconnaissance and search operations in forested areas to track down and destroy enemy sabotage groups trying to penetrate deeper into Russian territory are continuing," the Defense Ministry stressed.
According to the statement, Russian troops, artillery and air force heavily attacked Ukrainian positions at more than a dozen locations in Kursk province . Air and missile strikes were also carried out against military concentrations and foreign mercenaries in Ukraine's Sumy province, which borders Russia.
Ukrainian forces entered Kursk province on August 6, in the largest offensive into Russian territory since the two sides began fighting in February 2022.
The Ukrainian advance was quickly stopped by Russian troops, but fighting in the area continues, and Kiev's army still holds some border settlements.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that liberating the Kursk region was a “sacred duty” for the Russian military. By targeting the region, Putin said, Ukraine wanted to make Moscow “nervous” and force it to redeploy units from other important areas of the frontline.
“Did the enemy succeed? No, they did not achieve anything,” Putin stressed. The president added that Russian forces “stabilized the situation and began to gradually push the enemy back from the border territories” in Kursk, while accelerating their advance in Donbass and other areas of the frontline.
Also on September 9, the Russian Ministry of Defense released a video of Russian self-propelled artillery attacking Ukrainian forces in the forest belt.
During reconnaissance and search, paratroopers discovered a stronghold of the Ukrainian armed forces. The enemy's location data was immediately transmitted to the artillery command post.
The Nona self-propelled gun reached its firing position and attacked. The combat operation was carried out at night using night vision and thermal imaging equipment to prevent detection by enemy air surveillance systems.
Drones are used to reconnoiter enemy targets, adjust firepower, and track combat targets.
