China releases weapons design software 15 times faster than the US

Khánh Minh |

Chinese scientists have just released the world's most powerful weapons design software, 15 times faster than the US.

SCMP reported that Chinese weapons design software is much faster and has better memory capacity than its American counterpart. The software, called Yaoguang, is the result of years of research and development and is now available for free.

The Yaoguang software, developed by Professor Li Bin and his research team from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, is capable of performing radiation simulation analysis on multi-band antennas in just 12 minutes, while the similar US software, Ansys HFSS, needs up to 3 hours to complete the same task.

In addition, Yaoguang uses one-sixth less memory resources than American software, making Yaoguang an ideal tool for scientists and engineers in designing and researching new generation electronic weapons.

With the ability to analyze the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of aircraft carriers using electromagnetic launchers, the Chinese software can also increase the detail by nearly half and complete the task in a third less time than the US software.

Li's team recently published a paper in the Journal of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, revealing that Yaoguang has many military applications, including the ability to simulate the electromagnetic characteristics of large electromagnetic aircraft carriers. This is one of the important applications in electronic weapons research, as Chinese scientists can perform design theory verification 15 times faster than their American counterparts, while using the same amount of computing resources.

One notable point is that Yaoguang has been released for free in the past few months, which has helped increase the use of the software not only in China but also in other parts of the world. Researchers claim that instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on Western products, Yaoguang is a faster, free, and superior choice in many ways.

Yaoguang’s development also reflects a major step toward replacing expensive Western software that is widely used in China’s industrial design sector. The software is reportedly replacing Western products, bringing huge benefits to Chinese companies and saving the country money in the long run.
