According to Yicai, China has officially become the world's largest nuclear power operator by installed capacity, with a strict radioactive waste management system.
China's Ministry of Environment and Environment said that total nuclear power capacity in mainland China has reached 113 million kilowatts, surpassing any other country.
Despite starting much slower than the superpower, China has quickly taken on international experience and applied an advanced, reliable nuclear reactor design, creating a clear competitive advantage in the global nuclear power industry.
Nuclear power plants in mainland China have been operating safely for more than 600 years. Areactor year is understood as a year of operation of a nuclear reactor.
"Norm operation of nuclear facilities inevitably generates radioactive waste in the form of gas, liquid and solid. Gas and liquid waste are all treated to meet national standards before being discharged into the environment, while solid waste is classified and treated according to radiation level".

Notably, more than 90% of solid waste generated from nuclear power plants in normal operation is low-level radioactive waste.
Under strict supervision, each 1 million kilowatt processing unit produces less than 50 cubic meters of low-level solid waste per year.
After a period of temporary storage on site, this waste will be transported to centralized treatment facilities for permanent burial. High-end radioactive materials are also managed with extremely strict safety requirements, closely supervised from production to processing.
In parallel, China has built the world's largest radioactive surveillance network with 1,835 monitoring points covering cities at the geographical level and above, key border crossings and areas around nuclear facilities.
This national network is also supplemented by provincial-level networks, creating a multi-layered monitoring system, including more than 100 separate monitoring points around key nuclear power plants, from atmospheric radiation monitoring stations to wildlife, soil and water environment sampling points.
Monitoring data over the years shows that environmental radiation levels in China are always stable at a safe level.
