The Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA) recorded 11.9cm of snow in Seoul as of 8:20 a.m., while Uijeongbu in Gyeonggi province measured 13.8cm and Goseong in Gangwon province measured up to 19.9cm. A heavy snow warning has been issued, becoming the latest snow warning in Seoul.
Heavy snow caused the road to slide, forcing vehicles to move slowly, causing traffic congestion in many areas. The Seoul City government said the average traffic speed in the city center at 7:00 a.m. was only 17.9 km/h.
This situation also led to many accidents and collisions between vehicles. To reduce traffic pressure during rush hour, Korea Railway Corporation has increased 14 subway trips to serve the capital region.
Not only on roads, snowfall with strong winds also disrupts aviation activities. Korea Airports Corp (KAC) said at least four flights from Gimpo, Jeju Island, Yeosu and Wonju had been canceled due to severe weather conditions. By 8am, 5 more flights at Incheon International Airport were also delayed due to the plane being frozen.
According to the latest forecast, snow will stop falling nationwide on March 18.
