The Ukrainian Parliament on July 16 approved the appointment of Mr. Sergiy Koretsky - head of Naftogaz Group - as the new Prime Minister. The appointment of the new Prime Minister is part of a government reshuffle requested by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Mr. Sergiy Koretsky became the head of the 3rd government appointed since the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out in 2022. Mr. Koretskyi succeeded Ms. Yulia Svyrydenko, who just resigned earlier this week.
Mr. Sergiy Koretsky, 48 years old, is a well-trained engineer and economist. He has never held any position in the previous government and has no connection to any political parties. Analysts believe that this platform may be his advantage in his new position.
Mr. Koretsky is a reputable senior executive in the energy sector with more than 20 years of experience in oil production and refining, energy retail, wholesale management and international finance.
From May 2025, he is the CEO of one of Ukraine's largest state-owned enterprises Naftogaz - the oil and gas group that operates most of Ukraine's gas production, import and supply activities. Previously, he headed Ukrnafta - Ukraine's largest oil and gas company and part of the Naftogaz group.
He used to be the leader of Western Oil Group, CEO of Continuum Group and one of Ukraine's largest gas station chains WOG before working at Ukrainian state-owned energy companies.
Mr. Koretsky grew up in the city of Lutsk, western Ukraine and established a coffee business chain here.
