Information shared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on April 20. "I believe that, and my idea is that we need a European-level ballistic missile defense system. We are negotiating with some countries and are working in this direction. We need to build our own ballistic missile defense system within 1 year" - Mr. Zelensky said on the national television channel Marathon.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that this is an extremely difficult but feasible task. He also revealed that he had discussed this content with key countries in Europe but did not provide further details.

Fire Point, the development unit of the Flamingo cruise missile of Ukraine, revealed that it is negotiating with European companies to deploy a new air defense system in 2027. This system is expected to become a low-cost alternative to the US Patriot system.
Defense against ballistic missiles is one of Ukraine's biggest challenges in the conflict with Russia because currently only some types of missiles in the US Patriot system are capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles.
Patriot missile supply is sharply decreasing due to its widespread deployment in the Gulf region to cope with attacks from Iran. Meanwhile, Europe's only ballistic missile defense system today is SAMP/T, developed by Italy and France but produced in relatively limited quantities.
