At the regular press conference on the afternoon of June 4, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang raised Vietnam's reaction to the US Trade Representative's June 2 proposal to impose additional tariffs on goods from 60 economies including Vietnam, based on the conclusion that these economies have not issued or effectively implemented measures to prevent the import of goods produced by forced labor, thereby hindering US trade.
Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized: "The investigation conclusion on forced labor acts by the US Trade Representative Office does not reflect the reality and efforts of Vietnam in preventing and reducing forced labor.
The spokesperson stated clearly that Vietnam's consistent policy is to strictly prohibit all forms of forced labor, strictly comply with the regulations of the International Labor Organization, free trade agreements and this policy is specifically stipulated in legal documents, in government action plans and is guaranteed to be implemented in practice.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that in the past time, Vietnam has also participated in ratifying relevant international conventions and treaties to ensure the full implementation of the rights and obligations of workers and Vietnam has participated in providing complete and detailed information to the US side during the investigation process.
In that spirit, Vietnam has been, is and will continue to exchange and work with the US side in a constructive and cooperative spirit to resolve existing disagreements based on bilateral and multilateral trade commitments of each side, while always striving to protect the legitimate and lawful interests of workers and businesses" - Ms. Pham Thu Hang shared.
