Vietnam reached 180 votes in favor, the highest among the Asia-Pacific group, and is the only Asia-Pacific country to be a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term re-elected for the 2026-2028 term.
This election result reflects the trust and appreciation of United Nations members for Vietnam's strong commitments and efforts in promoting and protecting human rights along with Vietnam's contributions and initiatives in its position as a member of the Human Rights Council 2023-2025.
At the same time, this also demonstrates the international community's trust in open foreign policies, efforts to participate and contribute to multilateral mechanisms, Vietnam's achievements in international integration and the recognition of Vietnam's increasingly consolidated position as an active member, trusted partner, for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
In her third term as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Vietnam will continue to promote 8 priority areas of improving the effectiveness of the Human Rights Council's activities, ensuring human rights in climate change and digital transformation, promoting gender equality, protecting vulnerable groups, health rights, employment rights, human rights education and education rights.
Vietnam will continue to contribute to the common efforts of the international community, addressing common concerns about human rights in the spirit of "Respect and understanding - Dialogue and cooperation - All human rights for all".
When running for membership in the Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term, Vietnam also had 12 voluntary commitments in many areas of human rights and will seriously implement these commitments.
These commitments are not only associated with initiatives at the Human Rights Council and human rights mechanisms of the United Nations and the region, but also in the process of implementing recommendations that Vietnam has approved under the occasion for the United Nations Periodic Review (UPR) cycle IV or from the Human Rights Convention Committees to which Vietnam is a member.
Vietnam's voluntary commitments are also closely linked to work identified as of strategic importance, requiring a breakthrough to bring the country into a new era of development with the goal of becoming a developed country with high income by 2045; especially the work of building a rule of law state, reforming the law, international integration, innovation and digital transformation...
The 2026-2028 term of membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council will begin on January 1, 2026.
