On the afternoon of August 25, Politburo Member, Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu met with Senior Minister, Minister of National Security Coordination, and Minister of Home Affairs of Singapore K. Shanmugam, within the framework of his official visit to Singapore, co-chairing the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue.
Senior Minister Shanmugam welcomed Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu and the high-level delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam on an official visit to Singapore; highly appreciated the significance of the visit and the fact that the two sides successfully organized the first Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Dialogue with signed documents in areas of strategic significance for the development of the two countries in the coming period, contributing to further deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu congratulated Minister Shanmugam on his recent appointment as Senior Minister; expressed his wish that with his prestige and experience in the Government and the People's Action Party, Senior Minister Shanmugam will continue to support the promotion of relations between the two Parties and the two countries, especially in developing high-quality human resources, sharing Singapore's good experiences in macroeconomic management, scientific development, and new economic sectors, in order to form common development spaces; affirmed that Vietnam always values and wishes to work with Singapore to bring the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework to develop more deeply, practically and effectively, in accordance with the long-term interests and vision of the two countries.
Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu shared and informed about the results of the first Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Dialogue held on the same day; emphasizing that this is the first meeting of the mechanism agreed upon by the leaders of the two sides to be established during the State visit to Singapore by General Secretary and President To Lam in May 2026; highly appreciating the early implementation of the mechanism by the two sides, demonstrating the strong commitment of the two Parties to realizing high-level agreements.
Minister Shanmugam affirmed that he will continue to cooperate closely with the Vietnamese side, promote the effectiveness of the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue mechanism, contributing to strengthening political trust, improving adaptability and creating a foundation for long-term cooperation between the two countries. The Minister also said that he will promote cooperation between the Singaporean Ministry of Home Affairs and relevant Vietnamese agencies in related fields, especially cross-border crime prevention cooperation. Minister Shanmugam pledged to continue to coordinate closely at ASEAN and multilateral mechanisms, contributing to strengthening solidarity, unity, improving ASEAN's resilience and central role in the regional structure.
