Minnesota Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Ms. Yvette Hoffman, were attacked by gunmen at their home in the early morning of June 14 (local time). Although both were hit by a total of 17 bullets, when they were taken to the hospital, the doctor still believed they would survive.
The condition of both people is now believed to be stable.
In an interview, Ms. Hoffman said that her husband was hit by 9 bullets while she was hit by 8 bullets, and expressed condolences to the remaining two victims, Democratic leaders at the state House of Representatives - Ms. Melissa Hortman and her husband Mr. Mark, when they did not survive.
Authorities are hunting for suspect Vance Martin Boelter - who wore a rubber mask and a police uniform to approach the victims at a private home in the suburbs of Minneapolis and flee by road.
On June 15, according to the police's announcement, a car believed to be related to the suspect appeared in Sibley District, about 80km from the scene and without a driver.
A Tallow hat believed to belong to Boelter was also found nearby.
Police added that Boelter's wife was detained by traffic police along with 3 other relatives shortly after the assassination, but released them for cooperation.
The authorities have expanded the search beyond the state boundary. The Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI) also added Boelter to the special wanted list.
Both lawmakers targeted belong to the Democratic - Farmer - Labor Party of Minnesota, which is affiliated with the federal Democratic Party.
The suspect's motives have not been announced yet, and the investigation is still ongoing.
According to his personal records, Boelter has experience in the field of security, received military training and has held the role of mucctor.
