On July 4, the Nghe An Provincial Military Command's Engineering Department coordinated with the Defense Command of Region 1 - Van An and the Military Command of Than Linh Commune to successfully detonate a MK83 bomb weighing about 500kg, left over from the war.
Previously, while renovating the garden, the family of Ms. Dau Thi Nghi (residing in Than Linh commune, Nghe An province) discovered the bomb about 3.5m deep underground, nearly 50m from the residential area. The engineering force determined that this was a foreign-made MK83 bomber, 2.17m long, 0.4m in diameter, containing a large amount of explosives and still in place, with the potential to explode at any time.
Upon receiving the news, the military quickly blocked off the scene, put up warning signs of danger and evacuated people and livestock from the danger zone. The work of guarding and protecting the scene was strictly implemented throughout the handling process.
After completing the deactivation of the detonation team, the bomb was moved by specialized vehicles to the remote mountainous area of Than Linh commune and detonated to ensure absolute safety for people, vehicles, and equipment.
According to the Nghe An Provincial Military Command, this is the bomb with the largest weight ever discovered in this area, and is also a testament to the fierceness of the war left in Nghe An.
The authorities recommend that people who discover explosives should immediately notify the authorities, absolutely do not move or impact without permission.
