On July 4, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan signed a decision to award a Certificate of Merit to Mr. Tran Van Nghia (residing in Chu Se commune, Gia Lai province) for his outstanding achievements in rescue work in the Ben Mong bridge area ( Ia Tul commune, Gia Lai province) on July 3.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Mr. Tran Van Nghia said that he was very touched and surprised to be commended by the provincial leaders. "For me, saving 2 children trapped in the rushing water is normal and should be done. But unexpectedly, after returning home, I received a lot of encouragement and motivation, and was more surprised to receive a Certificate of Merit," said Mr. Nghia.

As Lao Dong reported, at noon on July 3, while working near Ben Mong bridge, Mr. Nghia suddenly heard the sound of people calling for help of two children trapped in the rushing water.
Many adults tried to swim to safety but were helpless because the water was too strong. In a critical situation, Mr. Nghia quickly used a drone that was spraying pesticides on the potato fields for rescue.
"At first, the water only reached the knees, but the children of the cattle herd still passed by normally. But in just 5-10 minutes, the water suddenly rose very quickly. The herd of cows had reached the other side, while a few children were trapped and isolated in the rushing water.
Seeing that, I controlled the plane carrying a rope to bring the two children to shore one by one. When the third child arrived, the family's boat was ready to approach. When I was flying to save the children, my hands trembled and my heart beat beat strongly for fear of an incident. However, I tried to calm down and luckily I was able to bring the children to shore safely," Mr. Nghia recounted.
