RT reported that a video released by the Russian Defense Ministry shows a dramatic moment when elite soldiers get onto a cargo ship and chase the pilots.
In the video released on October 26, it was seen the anti-terrorist unit from the Russian Navy's Vice Admiral Kulakov warship climbing onto a giant container ship carrying weapons in a ready-made position, then climbing up the stairs to the cockpit to search for any remaining invaders on the ship.
MSC Lucia was reported to have sent a rescue signal as it was heading to Vietnam in West Africa at around 1pm on October 25, signaling that the cargo ship had been attacked by armed sabote attack about 86 nautical miles southwest of Agbami Port on the coast of Nigeria.
The Udaloy-class destroyers arrived in the Gulf of Guinea about two weeks ago, conducting three-week naval security and anti-pirat patrols in the area. Navy sources said they had blocked the seizure of another Panama-flagged ship.
Russian forces responded after the Lucia crew reported that the boatmen had boarded the ship and were stationed in the engine room. After the announcement of the incident, a Ka-27PS helicopter was mobilized along with the anti-terrorism unit on board.
Seeing the military helicopter approaching, "the boatmen left the ship, boarded a high-speed boat and advanced towards the coast at maximum speed," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The Russian Navy's warship forces then boarded the cargo ship and investigated it to ensure the ship was safe.
