On September 21, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese weightlifting team and 4 key athletes arrived in Aichi-Nagoya (Japan) to prepare for competition.
According to registration, the Vietnamese weightlifting team has athletes: Nguyen Hoai Thuong (53kg female), Quang Thi Tam (57kg female) and K'Duong (60kg male), Tran Minh Tri (65kg male).
Vietnamese weightlifting team receives target to strive for medals at ASIAD 20.
Three years ago at ASIAD 19 held in 2023, Vietnamese athletes failed, without a medal result.
This year, the Vietnam Weightlifting Team is renewing its force to give faith to young faces with good form.
The 4 weightlifters mentioned above trained in China for nearly 1 month before coming to Japan to attend ASIAD 20.
The training program in China helps Vietnamese athletes adjust their expertise effectively to reach their peak performance right at the time of competition in Aichi-Nagoya (Japan).
Notably this year, the weightlifting team has expert Li Shunzhu (China) participating in training.
This expert will directly direct each athlete to compete at ASIAD 20 with the coaching staff.
Weightlifting of ASIAD 20 organizes competitions in 16 weight classes. Men's events will compete 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 85kg, 95kg, 110kg and over 110kg.
The women's event will feature weight classes of 49kg, 53kg, 57kg, 61kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg and over 86kg (women's).
To create fair competition, each team is allowed to register a maximum of 5 men's events and 5 women's events. In which, only 1 athlete is allowed to participate in each event.
ASIAD 20 weightlifting will calculate the overall achievement (including snatch, clean and jerk) to award overall medals to athletes in each event.
The weightlifting competition program takes place from September 23 to September 29.
