The ASIAD 20 weightlifting event has just announced that the medal achievements of the weight classes will be calculated based on the overall result.
Previously, the Asian Weightlifting Federation developed a plan to calculate medal results for snatch and clean and jerk achievements in each event.
However, at this time, the calculation of achievements has changed and only the total result is determined to award medals.
It is expected that ASIAD 20 weightlifting will limit each team to register athletes to participate in a maximum of 5 male weight classes and 5 female weight classes.
The 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships just held in India has included in the competition program the 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 94kg, 100kg and over 110kg events for men; 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg and over 86kg for women.
From this tournament, many teams (including Vietnam) continue to make adjustments to prepare for ASIAD 20. Vietnamese weightlifting has not decided the official force to participate in ASIAD 20 and the training and competition results of the athletes will be a measure to determine specific competition opportunities in Japan in September.
According to the regulations of the World Weightlifting Federation, weightlifting at the 2028 Olympics will compete in the weight classes: 65kg, 75kg, 85kg, 95kg, 110kg, over 110kg (men) and 53kg, 61kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, over 86kg (women).
