From articles in difficult times, to massive news at the SEA Games, ASIAD or Olympics, sports journalism is a bridge of emotions between millions of people and the beat of the country's sports. However, it was not until the 100th year of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press that people felt the difficulties and problems of the sports journalism sector.
Specialized sports newspapers, once famous, are now shrinking, narrowing their position, and even no longer exist. Many other newspapers have sports articles but are less attractive, existing in the style of " giving enough trays". When social networks are on the rise, everyone can "work as a journalist", but the sports press struggles with the question: "Where is it?".
The sports flow is still rolling every hour and minute, from Vietnam to the world, but what the professionals are most sad about is the role crisis. There is an objective reason, when the country's sports have fallen into prominence. There is a subjective reason, when the sports journalism village also has its own problems. But in the general picture, the competitive pressure is really great.
However, sports journalism has, is and will not be allowed to disappear. Because behind each match, each drop of sweat of the athletes, there is still a need for teachers who are sensitive and tell-telling. Vietnamese sports may be stagnant, but they are never lacking in ambition. For example, Vietnamese men's football, despite being in a difficult period, there are still millions of people waiting for the day to get up. And reporters and sports journalists must still be the ones to cheer.
To do that, sports journalism must find ways to change. Sometimes it is simply to return to the core values: honesty, criticism, humanity. We must go into depth, touch the heart, and awaken the spirit of sportsmanship. No need to follow social networks. It is necessary to take a private path, where words still have value and readers still want to go there for emotion, trust, not for controversy, or questions.
On a long journey, difficulties are always present. Therefore, sports journalism, like sports themselves, can never run out of hope. To continue to contribute with a spirit of service.
