On December 16, the Ministry of National Defense held a meeting and encouraged the military sports teams with high achievements in 2025. The Cong Viettel Club is one of 10 groups recognized for their persistent efforts, disciplined spirit and desire to contribute.
Attending and directing the meeting were General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense and leaders of the Ministry of National Defense.
The meeting and encouragement is an activity to report outstanding achievements in training and competition of the sports force in the army in the past year; to recognize and encourage athletes and coaches; at the same time, to spread the spirit of training and competition of military sports.
In the 2024-2025 season, The Cong Viettel won the National Cup bronze medal, ranked 4th in the V.League National Football Championship. With the identity of a soldier, the team is always in the top of the list of clubs competing for the championship.
Within the framework of the program, General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense - took the time to meet and encourage The Cong Viettel club right at the team's football field.
The Minister visited and discussed with the coaching staff, players and representatives of professional departments, grasped the training and competition situation and the management and training of the team.
Minister Phan Van Giang also shared his hope that the team will continue to promote the quality of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the competition, maintain The Cong identity and spread the spirit of military sports to the community and sent his best wishes for the team to compete successfully in all tournaments.
The Minister also presented gifts of encouragement to 5 youth teams of The Cong Viettel, the next generation force with the mission of preserving traditions, while creating a foundation for long-term development goals.
The representative of The Cong Viettel club also respectfully presented the minister with a trophy, jersey, and signed ball of the whole team, expressing his deep gratitude for the timely attention, direction and encouragement for the team.
With 71 years of history, The Cong - Viettel is the most successful and oldest team in Vietnamese football.
In the historical journey, the army team has won many achievements such as 6 national championships, 4 national A-class championships, 9 Northern A-class championships and many other important awards.
From 2020 to now, the club has contributed an average of 30-35% of athletes to the national teams each year. With the contribution of 108 individuals to the national team at all levels over the past 6 years, The Cong Viettel is the unit that contributes the most athletes of all ages to Vietnamese football.
