On the evening of August 29, at Can Tho Stadium, the Opening Ceremony of the 10th Can Tho City Sports Festival in 2026, associated with the Art Program celebrating the 81st anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2nd, with the theme "Can Tho reaches new heights" took place.
The Congress is a major festival of the city; gathering athletes, coaches and sports delegations from the City Military Command, City Police, City Education and Training Department and 28 commune and ward clusters.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee said that the 10th Can Tho City Sports Festival in 2026 is not only a great sports festival for the whole people, an opportunity for athletes to show their talent, bravery and noble sportsmanship, but also a measure to evaluate the development of the mass sports movement.
Through this, continue to promote the Campaign "All people practice physical exercise following the example of the great Uncle Ho", contributing to improving the health, physical condition and quality of cultural and spiritual life of the people.
This is an important source for the city to select and discover outstanding faces, and prepare forces to participate in competitions to achieve high results at the 2026 National Sports Games," emphasized the Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee.
At the program, Mr. Nguyen Van Bay - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City informed that in the past time, the physical education and sports movement, especially mass sports, in the city has continuously developed deeply and spread strongly from agencies, armed forces, schools, residential areas to ethnic minority and religious areas.
Along with that, the city's high-performance sports have gradually affirmed their position, achieving imprints in regional, national and international arenas.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, regarding the organization of the Commune-level Sports Festival, so far 103/103 communes and wards in the city have successfully organized the Congress after merging the local government at two levels, creating a vibrant emulation atmosphere among the people.
The Can Tho City Sports Festival 2026 is organized to compete in 20 sports, taking place from July 1 to September 15, 2026. To date, the Organizing Committee has completed competition in 13/20 sports in phase 1 and the men's football qualifying round with the participation of 2,656 athletes, awarding a total of 139 sets of medals. Immediately after the Opening Ceremony, the remaining sports will continue to compete.
