This weekend, the VTV Ferroli Cup 2025 international women's volleyball tournament will officially kick off at Vinh Phuc Provincial Gymnasium. This is an annual tournament with the participation of the Vietnam women's team and strong teams in the region.
At this year's VTV Cup, the Vietnam women's volleyball team is in Group A with the Philippines women's team, Australia and Sichuan club (China). Meanwhile, Group B includes U21 Vietnam, U21 Thailand, Taiwan (China) and Korabelka Club (Russia).
In Group A, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team only faced opponents of equal level or slightly lower level.
Not long ago, in the final of the AVC Nations Cup 2025, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team easily defeated the Philippines after 3 quick sets to successfully defend the championship title.
In addition, Australia is not a barrier for Vietnam. Also in the AVC Nations Cup group stage, Thanh Thuy and her teammates defeated this opponent 3-0 with a large score difference.
Otherwise, Sichuan club (China) contains many unknowns. This team will more or less bring challenges to the Vietnam women's volleyball team. However, with the best players, the home team will aim for a favorable result.
In case of overcoming the Philippines and Australia, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team will soon win a ticket to the quarter-finals. However, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team also needs a best ranking (especially Group A) to avoid facing Korabelka Club (Russia) in the next rounds.
This is considered Vietnam's strongest opponent at the VTV Cup 2025. A year ago, Thanh Thuy and her teammates only won the runner-up position after a 0-3 defeat to Korabelka in the final. If they continue to face this opponent in this year's final, this is an opportunity for the Vietnam women's volleyball team to get their debt back.
According to statistics, in the last 5 times the VTV Cup International Volleyball Tournament was held (from 2017 to present), the Vietnam women's volleyball team reached the final 4 times, winning the championship in 2018, 2023 and being runner-up in 2019, 2024.
Not only bringing in achievements, VTV Cup 2025 will be a necessary stepping stone for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to prepare professionally and physically to aim for the two upcoming important tournaments: the World Championship (taking place in September) and the 33rd SEA Games (taking place in December).
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet affirmed: For any tournament, we require players to focus and be ready for each match. No opponent is easy and we want to have the best experience, we must first prepare carefully."
Through the AVC Nations Cup as well as the VTV Cup 2025, the coaching staff will select the most excellent squad for the Vietnam women's volleyball team.
In addition, key players such as Thanh Thuy, Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Trinh, Khanh Dang, Nhu Quynh, Nguyen Uyen or Kieu Trinh, Lam Oanh... will gradually improve their skills and maintain a stable performance throughout, avoiding falling into a situation of not playing or practicing vegetarianism for too long affecting their physical condition and feeling with the ball.
