At 5:00 p.m. on September 29, in Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan, the final match of the 76th World Individual 3-Cushion Billiards Championship took place between two players Tran Thanh Luc (Vietnam) and Cho Myung Woo (Korea).
This year's tournament is considered to have many surprises when the champion of this tournament in 2023, Bao Phuong Vinh, had to stop in the round of 16. Another strong player of Vietnam, Tran Quyet Chien (world rank 2), stopped in the round of 16.
In the semi-finals on the afternoon of September 29, player Tran Thanh Luc excellently defeated world No. 1 player Dick Jaspers (Netherlands) with a score of 50 - 32 to reach the finals.
This is also the third time in history that Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards has a representative in the finals of the prestigious world championship.
In the final, Cho Myung Woo continued to show excellent performance.
Cho Myung Woo went first to score 1 point, then Tran Thanh Luc. Despite many opportunities, Luc could not score in the first 5 consecutive turns, allowing Cho Myung Woo to lead by 11 points.
In the 6th turn, Tran Thanh Luc scored the first 3 points amidst loud applause from the audience. In the following turns, Luc again missed some relatively difficult shots, causing the gap to be quite large, 22-3 in favor of Cho Myung Woo at the end of the 9th turn.
The gap was shortened in the following turns to 10 - 23 after Luc finished the 11th turn. In the 18th turn, Tran Thanh Luc scored 9 points, raising the score to 23, while Cho Myung Woo had 38 points.
In the 19th round, Cho Myung Woo maintained his composure and precision in each shot to maintain his advantage. At the decisive moment of the 19th round, Cho Myung Woo scored 11 points in a row to win 50 - 23, thereby convincingly winning the world championship.
After the final match, the Closing Ceremony and awards ceremony were held.
Sharing with reporters after the final match, runner-up Tran Thanh Luc said that he had prepared carefully for the journey to the tournament. The enthusiastic cheering of the fans lifted the players' spirits.
The 76th World Individual 3-Cushion Billiards Carom Championship took place in Binh Thuan from September 25 to 29. The tournament attracted 48 of the world's top players, including 7 Vietnamese players. The champion received 40,000 Euros (about 1 billion VND).
