Currently, there is 1 player who is not allowed to compete because he does not meet the conditions of the International Federation of Labor (FIVB).
The game needs fairness
The Vietnam Volleyball Federation officially announced the results of the Executive Committee meeting held on September 11.
Regarding the content of checking the status of volleyball athletes in Vietnam to participate in domestic and international tournaments, the Executive Committee unanimously decided: Offficial tournaments of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and participating clubs and athletes are all registered in the FIVB system. Therefore, athletes who are not qualified by FIVB will not be allowed to compete in tournaments in the official competition system of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation until further notice.
The determination of gender disorder for athletes to participate in tournaments in the official competition system of Vietnam will be carried out according to specific instructions of FIVB, functional units and conditions to ensure the accuracy of this determination, implemented starting from 2026.
Team athletes participating in the SEA Games are checked in accordance with the regulations of the SEA Games Organizing Committee and the instructions of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports.
It is understandable that the Vietnam Volleyball Federation has not avoided to face the reality that the gender test of athletes will have to be conducted if there is a reflection. The teams always want the game to be fair.
Players want the same. Sports Federations and Associations in Vietnam must comply with the regulations issued by their international sports organizations. Therefore, going to the athlete's status test (including gender testing) is a reality of high-performance sports at this time.
But we must keep humanity
It must be affirmed that volleyball coaches and athletes in Vietnam all aim for a noble sportsmanship. However, Vietnamese volleyball managers must look at many aspects before deciding on the status of athletes. From a sportsful perspective, people want fair-play for everyone. But from a social perspective, if a player is considered for status and gender, it will easily fall into a state of psychological influence due to discrimination and self-expression posted on social networks. Their families were also under similar pressure.
In life, if athletes are not allowed to compete, they are unemployed and have to find a way to make a living to support themselves and their families. In fact, not many athletes come from well-off families. They determined that coming to sports, in addition to passion, also has the goal of escaping poverty.
It is almost certain that player Dang Thi Hong will not be allowed by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation to participate in the second phase of the 2025 National Championship. This is a player who was called up by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation to the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team and the Vietnam U21 Team. The hitter has a long future ahead and is always ready to do national missions.
Offcial tournaments of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and participating clubs and athletes are registered in the FIVB system. Therefore, athletes who are not qualified by FIVB will not be allowed to compete in tournaments in the official competition system of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation until another decision is made, this is the main reason why the Vietnam Volleyball Federation decided not to allow Dang Thi Hong to participate in official tournaments.
This former player overcame difficulties in the countryside of Bac Kan (old) by practicing sports and becoming a volleyball player in Thai Nguyen. Dang Thi Hong's professional efforts are highly appreciated by her teammates and each coach she works with. FIVB's regulations are not wrong. However, when the Vietnam Volleyball Federation applies it, the managers should consider the factors of the lives of athletes so that they can still have faith in sports.
