On September 11, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation held a meeting to resolve a number of issues, including the case of a player who was eliminated from the 2025 U21 World Cup by the FIVB.
After researching, there are consensus that player Dang Thi Hong will not be allowed to participate in the second phase of the 2025 National Championship.
This player will also not be able to participate in official tournaments of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation from next year.
Currently, player Dang Thi Hong is managed by the Thai Nguyen women's volleyball team and is playing for the 2025 National Championship.
Previously, at the 2025 U21 World Championship held in Indonesia in July 2025, the FIVB Volleyball World Federation suddenly conducted a check-up to register a number of Vietnamese players due to suspicion.
The FIVB then announced the content: The investigation concluded that the player mentioned did not meet the conditions under Article 12.2 of the 2023 FIVB Disciplinary Regulations. Therefore, according to Article 13.5.2 of the law and Article 14.4 of the Disciplinary Regulations, the FIVB Disciplinary Subcommittee has issued a decision to cancel the matches of the Vietnam Youth Women's Volleyball Team that the player participated in and expel that player from the event, effective immediately.
According to Article 14.4 of the Disciplinary Regulations and considering the details of the incident, the FIVB Disciplinary Subcommittee will transfer the dossier to the FIVB Disciplinary Council for further appraisal of potential penalties that may be applied after the tournament.
FIVB did not specify whether the U21 Vietnam players were not eligible to compete. However, after this announcement, player Dang Thi Hong did not continue to play in the tournament.
At the same meeting on September 11, the issue of whether to conduct a gender test for players or not was discussed. According to the requirement, from 2026, in case there are suspicious athletes participating in the women's event, players will have to have a gender test result before being registered to compete in accordance with regulations.
If the player is called up to the National Team and is in doubt, he/she may also have to have a test result before participating in an international tournament to avoid controversy.
