The organizers of IRONMAN 70. 3 Da Nang said that in just one month, Vietnam will host the IRONMAN total distance race for the first time (140.6 miles), with the main competition day taking place on May 10 in Da Nang City.
Vietnam becoming the 32nd country to host shows that the capacity to organize large-scale sports events is increasingly being improved.
The event also marks the 10th season of IRONMAN 70. 3 Da Nang - an important milestone for the domestic triathlon community.
The tournament organized by Sunrise Events Vietnam continues to record great attraction when the registration gate is closed early, gathering the largest number of athletes in history.
In 2026, the tournament has more than 3,100 athletes from 90 countries, a sharp increase compared to more than 1,000 athletes in the first season of 2015.
Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh - Director of Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: "The hosting of the first IRONMAN full-distance race in Vietnam is an important milestone, contributing to enhancing Da Nang's position on the international sports map.
The city will continue to invest in infrastructure, urban landscapes and overall experiences to meet the increasing standards of large-scale sports events.
Through hosting international tournaments such as VNG IRONMAN Vietnam and VNG IRONMAN 70. 3 Da Nang, the city once again affirms its vision to become a dynamic sports - tourism center of the region".
With the orientation of a multi-sport sports festival, the event week will include many activities besides the two main tournaments.
Starting with the Newborns Vietnam Run Out charity running event on May 8, to raise awareness about the need for timely medical care for newborns, and at the same time call for community participation in supporting newborn care and life-saving programs in Vietnam.
Next, on May 9, SUNRISE SPRINT Vietnam - third place in short distance combining (750m swimming, 20km cycling, 5km running), together with IRONKIDS Vietnam with swimming - running and swimming - cycling - running events for children from 5 to 15 years old, contributing to encouraging a dynamic lifestyle for the young generation.
The simultaneous hosting of IRONMAN COMPLETE and IRONMAN 70. 3 continues to affirm Da Nang's orientation for sports tourism development, while contributing to enhancing the city's position on the international event map.
