On July 31, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong signed Decision 2676/QD-BVHTTDL, approving the Project to organize the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026. The biggest sporting event in the country will gather thousands of athletes from provinces, cities and sectors, competing in 3 localities: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Dong Thap.
According to the project, the Congress is expected to have 47 official competitions, divided into 3 groups.
In which, the group of sports in the Olympic system dominated with 22 sports, including: athletics, swimming, gymnastics, rowing (rowing, canoeing, sailing), football (11 men and futsal), weightlifting, archery, weightlifting, judo, taekwondo, boxing, boxing, boxing, badminton, tennis, volleyball, basketball, volleyball, cycling, table tennis, golf and triathlon.
Expanding the number of Olympic events shows a long-term strategy to prepare athletes for the 34th, 2030 ASIAD and the 2028 Olympics. At the same time, this is an important step in standardizing the competition and training system in localities according to international standards.
In addition to the Olympic group, the program also has 7 events in the ASIAD system such as karate, wushu, badminton, kurash, jujitsu, roller and sportsports; along with 18 SEA Games and traditional ethnic sports such as muay, pencak silat, physical education, chess, traditional martial arts, lion and dragon...
The Congress is not only an occasion for competitions for outstanding athletes but also a political - cultural - sports event with a wide influence in the whole society. This is an opportunity for the sports industry to comprehensively evaluate the sports movement from grassroots to professional, discover new factors, thereby orienting the development of high-performance sports for the next stage.
Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Dong Thap - dynamic localities will play a key role in hosting the event, while making good use of existing facilities, ensuring savings and efficiency.
