The opponent is too strong
Tran Thi Nhi Yen won the Bronze Medal in the 100m event at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia in 2023 with a time of 11 seconds 75 and the Silver Medal in the 200m with a time of 23 seconds 54.
Looking at reality, the coaching staff of the Vietnam Athletics Team predicts that this athlete will not be able to win a Gold Medal at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand because the reigning champion Shanti Pereira (Singapore) is too strong.
The Singapore athlete won the Gold Medal in the women's 100m at the 32nd SEA Games with a time of 11 seconds 41 and the Gold Medal in the women's 200m with a time of 22 seconds 69. The record of 22 seconds 69 is a SEA Games record. Shanti Pereira won the 100m Silver Medal and the 200m Gold Medal at the 19th ASIAD.
The Singaporean's 3 most recent achievements are 11 seconds 41 (Silver Medal in the women's 100m at the 2025 Asian Championship), 22 seconds 98 (Silver Medal in the women's 200m at the 2025 Asian Championship) and 23 seconds 13 (200m women's World Championship 2025). Many professional opinions from some short-term coaches also affirmed that the Singapore national team is superior to athletes in the same event in Southeast Asia, including Nhi Yen. Therefore, the Vietnamese athletics team can only seek the opportunity to win the women's 100m or 200m championship in the future.
In terms of expertise, Nhi Yen's performance is not really stable. In a major tournament, the index of this runner is within accepted levels but has not exceeded.
At the 32nd SEA Games, Nhi Yen's 100m record was 75 seconds and her qualifying record at the Paris Olympics (France) was 79 seconds, while her final run at the 2025 Asian Championship was 11 seconds, 54. Nhi Yen had a result of 11 seconds 81, won the Bronze Medal in the 100m, at the 2025 National Championship.
The person holding the No. 1 position in Vietnam in the 100m and 200m events is athlete Ha Thi Thu. She won the national championship with the results of 11 seconds 68 and 23 seconds 43, respectively. The stats are still behind player Shanti Pereira.
Long-term goals
Vietnam Athletics did not include the women's 100m and 200m speed distance groups that were capable of winning high medals in the international arena in the most recent time. Based on the current number of athletes, the coaches make predictions. Currently, coaches Vu Ngoc Loi and Nguyen Thanh Huong are directly coaching the women's 100m and 200m events at the Vietnam Athletics Team. The human factor will determine success in terms of achievements.
The 2025 National Athletics Championship recently recognized the 6 fastest female athletes in the women's 100m event, including Ha Thi Thu, Tran Thi Nhi Yen, Hoang Du Y, Phung Thi Hue, Le Tu Chinh, Le Thi Cam Tu. Only 2 of them are of potential age, Nhi Yen and Cam Tu (19 years old).
The project to develop Vietnam's athletics until 2030 and orientation to 2045 was approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in August 2025. The manager will develop a plan to find solutions to select and train athletes who meet the requirements to achieve high results.
We strive to win 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal, 2 Bronze Medals at the 20th ASIAD in 2026 while at the 21st ASIAD in 2030, we will have 2 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation - Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung once discussed: "In the Project, we aim to focus on training about 2,200 athletes or more in provinces, cities, and sectors according to the talent, youth and national team lines of the units to participate in domestic tournaments. Organizing competitions and conducting periodic tests to detect talented athletes needs to be effective. The national youth team needs at least 100 athletes to practice their skills every year.
