The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Athletics Federation held its 2nd Conference on January 17 in Hanoi.
In the working session, the General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation - Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung reported on the professional summary of 2025 and at the same time outlined key tasks for 2026.
In which, the professional priority is aimed at achieving high achievements at ASIAD 20 which will compete in September in Japan.
At SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese athletics team participated with 50 athletes and achieved 12 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 10 bronze medals.
However, the professional indicators of the 12 gold medals are not close to the forecast that they may touch the ASIAD gold medal. Therefore, the Vietnamese athletics team must focus on improving the athlete's level this year.
At the Conference of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, Head of the Professional Committee and Vice President of the Federation - Mr. Pham The Trieu believes that the implementation of the Vietnam Athletics Development Project to 2030, orientation to 2045, will need to be done well in the upcoming period.
In the process of development, Vietnamese athletics has won some medal results at the Asian Games such as silver medals in 200m, bronze medals in 100m (Vu Thi Huong, ASIAD 2010), silver medals in 800m, 1,500m (Truong Thanh Hang, ASIAD 2010), bronze medals in 10 combined events (Vu Van Huyen, ASIAD 2010), gold medals in women's long jump (Bui Thi Thu Thao, ASIAD 2018), silver medals in 400m (Quach Thi Lan, ASIAD 2014), silver medals in women's long jump (Bui Thi Thu Thao, ASIAD 2014), gold medals in 400m hurdles (Quach Thi Lan, ASIAD 2018)...
Mr. Pham The Trieu emphasized that the implementation of the Project will be the basis to help Vietnamese athletics regain high rankings at the SEA Games and ASIAD arenas.
In which, the coordination mechanism between ministries, departments, branches, relevant agencies and localities and the Vietnam Athletics Federation needs to be ensured to be most effective. The focus on prioritizing funding sources to ensure the implementation of the Project must also be calculated appropriately.
Directing the Conference, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports - Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh assessed the working efforts of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Athletics Federation.
In which, ensuring achievements at ASIAD 20 and aiming for preparation for SEA Games 34 in 2027 is required by management levels to have the best implementation solutions.
