After successfully defending the ASEAN Cup 2026 championship with the Vietnamese national team on the evening of August 26, center-back Dinh Quang Kiet quickly joined the Vietnam U20 team in Phu Tho to prepare for the 2027 AFC U20 Championship qualifiers.
Quang Kiet was present in the friendly match between U20 Vietnam and Hung Yen club on August 27th at Viet Tri stadium. U20 Vietnam won 3-1, thereby completing the final preparation before entering the qualifying round.
According to the plan, Dinh Quang Kiet will play with U20 Vietnam throughout the U20 Asian Cup qualifiers 2027, taking place from August 31st to September 6th in Phu Tho.
Dinh Quang Kiet is considered a remarkable addition to the U20 Vietnam defense. The center-back born in 2003 has experience playing in the V.League and has just participated in the journey to defend the Southeast Asian championship of the Vietnamese national team.
At ASEAN Cup 2026, Quang Kiet was mainly used from the bench. He was brought on in the last 10 minutes of the second leg semi-final against Malaysia.
U20 Vietnam is currently led by coach Yutaka Ikeuchi. The main squad includes players born in 2007 and 2008, including many faces who participated in U19 Southeast Asia 2026 and are U17 Vietnam players participating in the U17 Asian Cup 2025.
In addition to Quang Kiet, U20 Vietnam also owns a number of notable players such as Hoa Xuan Tin, Le Huy Viet Anh, Dau Hong Phong, Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Hoang Cong Hau and Nguyen Van Bach.
In the 2027 AFC U20 Championship qualifiers, U20 Vietnam is in Group C with U20 North Korea, U20 Palestine and U20 Iran. The team will play their opening match against U20 North Korea on August 31.
The qualifying round includes 8 groups. After the end, the top 8 teams in each group and 7 second-placed teams with the best results and the host team will win the right to participate in the 2027 AFC U20 Championship finals.
