Brazilian expert, Mr. Gustavo, will not continue to coach the Vietnamese swimming team during the 2026 training period.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese swimming team said that the expert has ended his contract and returned home due to family matters.
Expert Gustavo has come to Vietnam to work since the beginning of 2025. This expert is assessed to bring good changes in expertise to many key swimmers such as Tran Hung Nguyen, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Pham Thanh Bao, Nguyen Quang Thuan, Nguyen Thuy Hien, Vo Thi My Tien...
During the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, expert Gustavo participated in the coaching staff of the Vietnamese swimming team in directing the athletes to compete. Previously, Mr. Gustavo was also the coach and coaching staff preparing professionally for the swimmer to compete in the 2025 Asian Championships. In the 2025 Asian Championships, the Vietnamese swimming team won 2 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals.
Thus, the Vietnamese swimming team will aim to hire new experts to prepare for this year's expertise. This year, the team's key swimmers have the task of participating in ASIAD 20 in September in Japan. Therefore, improving achievements is being raised as necessary.
According to the plan, important players such as Huy Hoang, Hung Nguyen, Thanh Bao, Quang Thuan, Nguyen Quoc, Hoang Quy... of Vietnamese swimming will be trained abroad before participating in ASIAD 20.
