The 2025 World Chess Championship will be held in Shanghai (China). On September 21, the teams attended a technical meeting and opening ceremony before officially entering the competition.
The Vietnamese chess team participated in the standard men's team event with international grandmaster Lai Ly Huynh and international grandmaster Nguyen Thanh Bao. We will participate in the women's standard team with international grandmaster Dam Thi Thuy Dung and chess player Kieu Bich Thuy.
The organizing committee said that the players will compete in 8 standard flag tournaments from September 22 to September 25. There are 2 rounds per day. On the opening day, round 1 will be held at noon and round 2 will take place in the evening according to local time in China.
After 8 rounds, the organizing committee will determine the rankings to compete in the final on September 27.
On September 26, the players competed in the rapid chess event. According to the registration, the tournament attracted 157 players to participate in the rapid chess event. This is the 3rd time the rapid chess event has been held at the World Chess Championship. Khuyen Lai Ly Huynh won a gold medal at the first event in 2022.
The goal of the Vietnam General Chess Team is to strive for a medal at the 2025 World Championship. The two international university majors Lai Ly Huynh and Nguyen Thanh Bao won the championship in 2022.
Also participating in the tournament, the Vietnamese chess team will compete in the U15 youth tournament with Do Manh Thang, Hoang Nhat Minh Huy, Vu Xuan Bach, Tran Bich Phuong, Pham Huu Minh, Le Ngoc Minh Khue, Nguyen Thuy Dung, Ngo Minh An and the U12 tournament with Tran Nguyen Minh Hang, Hoang Manh Hung, Truong Gia Han, Truong Thanh Van, Lam Hoang Hai Ngoc, Chu Duc Huy, Nguyen Dang Khoa. Among them, young player Chu Duc Huy is considered to have high potential for results.
