From the practical regime
When working on management and development of Hanoi sports and the Vietnamese Sports sector, the late Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee - Mr. Hoang Vinh Giang repeatedly emphasized that for sports to develop, the top priority is to ensure regimes and policies for coaches and athletes.
Over 80 years, through each period, the Vietnamese Sports sector has always been the advisory body on regimes and policies for leaders to specifically consider and make appropriate policies for the country's sports.
20 years ago, on the social level at that time, Vietnamese coaches and athletes enjoyed the regime according to Decision 234/2006/QD-TTg (dated October 18, 2006) on a number of regimes for coaches and athletes. At that time, the head coach of the national team received a salary of 150,000 VND/day, the coach received a salary of 100,000 VND/day and the athlete had a salary of 70,000 VND/day. At this time, the bonus for each SEA Games, ASIAD and Olympic Gold Medal was 25 million VND, 45 million VND and 80 million VND respectively.
After 20 years, Vietnamese sports coaches and athletes have changed many regimes and reward levels so that sports can be elevated in value when Decree 349/2025/ND-CP (December 30, 2025) stipulates regimes and policies for members of the sports team participating in concentrated training from 2026. Now, athletes will receive a bonus of 3.5 billion VND for each Olympic Gold Medal, while ASIAD Gold Medal winners will receive a bonus of 280 million VND. Each SEA Games Gold Medal has a bonus of 54 million VND. Not to mention, the daily wage of the head coach is 1,100,000 VND, the national team coach is 750,000 VND/person, and the national team player receives 550,000 VND/day.
To Development Strategy
Assessments from many managers and professionals show that Vietnamese Sports has 2 very important strategic development plans.
The Strategy for Development of Vietnamese Physical Education and Sports to 2020 has been promulgated by the Prime Minister and was born in 2010. This is the first time a specific Strategy on the field of sports has been built and promulgated. The consistent content has been that managers identify building and developing the country's physical education and sports to improve people's health, contributing to improving the quality of human resources serving the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country and increasing the life expectancy of Vietnamese people in the spirit of the cause of a strong people, a prosperous country, integration and development. At the same time, high-performance sports must achieve practical results equal to rankings at SEA Games, ASIAD and Olympics.
The Strategy for Development of Vietnamese Physical Education and Sports to 2030, with a vision to 2045, issued in 2024, is a continuation for the Vietnamese Sports industry to continue to invest and develop to improve its position. This strategy aims for the goal of all people having access to and enjoying physical education and sports services, and consciously exercising to improve health, fitness and quality of life. Improving the achievements of Vietnamese Sports, gradually approaching and moving towards reaching the level of countries with developed sports in Asia. We also expand the sports market, mobilizing and effectively using resources in the development of physical education and sports.
