This is considered an important step, bringing the controversial case that has lasted for a long time closer to an end.
Previously, FIFA issued a 12-month suspension decision for each related player, and fined FAM 350,000 Swiss francs. After the FIFA Complaint Board rejected the entire complaint and upheld the disciplinary action, Malaysia continued to bring the case to the CAS.
While waiting for the final verdict, the CAS has approved the request to temporarily suspend the penalty, allowing naturalized players to still register and compete. However, this decision is only temporary and will be reviewed after the official hearing at the end of February.
FAM said it will fully coordinate with CAS and relevant agencies, and provide all necessary documents and materials to defend its position. The Federation emphasized its desire to have a final conclusion soon to stabilize the professional activities of national teams.
The case of invalid naturalized players has caused a major crisis for Malaysian football. Previously, the entire Executive Committee of the FAM for the term 2025-2029 simultaneously resigned, took collective responsibility and created conditions for an independent review and investigation process.
The upcoming hearing of the CAS is considered a key milestone, not only deciding the fate of the players involved but also directly affecting the orientation and prestige of Malaysian football in the coming period.
