On January 28, Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region People's Committee (An Giang) and Sun Group held the groundbreaking ceremony for Bai Dat Do Mixed-use Urban Area and Ong Quan Mountain Ecotourism Mixed-use Urban Area. These are 2 of 21 APEC projects approved.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Party and State leaders.
It is expected that the 2 projects to be started will add about 12,000 rooms, serviced apartments and commercial centers, international-standard landscapes... preparing the best accommodation infrastructure, meeting the strict requirements for serving the APEC 2027 high-level foreign affairs event, and at the same time contributing to creating a new hotel and commercial urban face for Phu Quoc.
In which, Bai Dat Do mixed urban area with a scale of 88.4 hectares, total investment of about 64,000 billion VND, is developed along the APEC Avenue axis, with towers up to 40 stories high on both sides, integrating high-class hotels, commercial centers, coastal squares...
Gathering here will be 13 high-end hotel brands, owned by 5 leading prestigious hotel groups in the world, many of which luxury brands appear for the first time in Vietnam such as SO, Conrad or W Hotels.
Starting construction on the same day, the Nui Ong Quan eco-tourism mixed urban area has a total investment of about 5,550 billion VND, a scale of more than 21 hectares, located on the hillside, adjacent to Bai Dat Do and Hoang Hon Town. The project is oriented to develop as a multi-functional eco-urban area, integrating accommodation, services and trade, with environmentally friendly traffic planning. When completed, it is expected to provide about 5,200 serviced apartments, contributing to solving the current urgent shortage of accommodation facilities in Phu Quoc and preparing the best for APEC 2027.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said: We are very happy and excited after the success of the 14th Party Congress. We immediately deploy tasks with the spirit of being the right policy, deploying quickly, working to the end, efficiency is a measure.
Implement well the assignment in 6 areas: clear, clear people, clear tasks, clear time, clear responsibilities, clear authority and clear results. And the spirit is to take people and businesses as the center as subjects in development in general, including the development of Phu Quoc special zone in particular.
Phu Quoc Special Zone being selected to host the APEC 2027 conference is a great honor but also a very high responsibility. Currently, 21 projects serving strategic infrastructure are being implemented in preparation for APEC 2027. The projects contribute to the development of the country in general and contribute to the development of Phu Quoc and An Giang special zones in particular. At the same time, they enhance the country's potential and prestige in the international arena.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested ministries and sectors, especially Phu Quoc and An Giang province, to organize the effective implementation of the specific tasks assigned. The Prime Minister noted the implementation of 5 reforms including: greening, digitizing, optimizing different potentials, outstanding opportunities and competitive advantages, smarting, management and governance; harmonizing the interests of the State, the people and businesses.

The Prime Minister welcomed An Giang and Phu Quoc Special Zone for quickly carrying out procedures in accordance with the law, to create conditions and create opportunities for businesses to implement important projects. Welcoming Sun Group for taking on the general responsibility of implementing projects, welcoming contractors for showing very high spirit, working 3 shifts, 4 teams, working throughout holidays, holidays and Tet.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also emphasized: "First, it must be organized and implemented in accordance with the law; Second, it must be on schedule; Third, it must ensure quality; Fourth, it must be technical, aesthetic, environmental sanitation; Fifth, it must be labor safety; Sixth, it must optimize efficiency in the process of organizing construction.
The implementation of large-scale projects at Bai Dat Do and Ong Quan Mountain is considered a proactive and fundamental preparation step for Phu Quoc Special Zone and the investor to form a reception, accommodation, and event organization center to best serve APEC 2027. At the same time, it creates a foundation for Phu Quoc not only to achieve the goal of becoming a modern, dynamic coastal city, deeply integrated with the region and the world, but also to be a driving force for the development of An Giang province and the whole country.
