FIFA has every right to stop VTV's World Cup broadcast at any time

According to VTV representative, after having the World Cup copyright, the battle to protect copyright will also be extremely fierce, requiring determination. Because if VTV cannot protect copyright according to regulations, FIFA can stop broadcasting the 2018 World Cup at any time.

A VTV leader said so and affirmed that VTV and FIFA will sign a pen to a contract thicker than 40 pages early next week because by this time, the parties have reached a 100% high consensus and there are no more problems.

Sharing with the media, after VTV announced that it had agreed to buy the 2018 World Cup copyright, Mr. Nguyen Ha Nam - Head of the Editorial Board said:

"Until late afternoon on June 8, VTV signed a contract to buy the 2018 World Cup media rights in Vietnam. The official contract will be signed by FIFA tomorrow. And when we have an official contract, we will announce details about the copyright issue".

According to the agreement, up to now, VTV will exclusively own the 2018 World Cup copyright on all television, OTT ( internet infrastructure), mobile, not exclusive broadcasting rights and have the right to share copyrights with third parties after reaching an agreement with FIFA.

VTV will plan to broadcast and produce programs during the 2018 World Cup on 3 channels VTV2, VTV3 and VTV6 with all 64 matches".

The World Cup copyright is considered held in hand, however, even if the copyright is 100% owned, everything can still be changed if VTV cannot protect it according to FIFA regulations.

"I also pay close attention to copyright protection. This is an issue that needs to be implemented very strictly because these are mandatory binding conditions of FIFA when signing a media copyright contract in Vietnam.

Once there is a violation, especially a violation that causes the program signal from Vietnam to overflow to foreign countries, crossing geographical limits, then we have violated the contract and FIFA has the right to stop broadcasting at any time" - Mr. Ha Nam continued.

In fact, this has happened to VTV. VTV has had its Champions League 2016/2017 contract suspended for copyright infringement. The same thing could happen at the 2018 World Cup if copyright issues are not well protected.

Speaking more about VTV's plan to protect the World Cup copyright in the coming time, Mr. Ha Nam shared more:

"Copyright protection is a mandatory requirement in contracts with FIFA as well as other major tournaments. When implementing the contract, VTV will implement solutions to protect copyright resolutely, requesting the cooperation of competent authorities to ensure the correct implementation of the signed contract. VTV also hopes that viewers will join us in participating in copyright protection work".
