On March 16, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City in coordination with relevant units organized the 2026 National Excellent Rowing and Canoeing Championship. At the race, 468 athletes participated from 19 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide.
The tournament is divided into two main events including Canoeing and Rowing. In which, Canoeing takes place from March 11 to March 17 with the participation of 17 units such as People's Police, Bac Ninh, Da Nang, Dong Thap, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Army, Quang Tri, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang and Vinh Long.
Athletes compete in 40 events for men and women, competing in distances of 1,000m, 500m and 200m with canoes and kayaks.
After the Canoeing event ends, Rowing will take place from March 18 to March 24 with 14 participating units such as Ca Mau, Dak Lak, Da Nang, Dong Thap, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ha Tinh, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Thanh Hoa and Thai Nguyen.
Athletes will compete in 20 events for men and women in the 2,000m distance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Cong Tu, Director of Da Nang City Sports Center, said that in recent years, Vietnamese boat racing has achieved many very proud successes. Worthy of praise for the efforts, will and hard work of athletes in the past time.
We believe that, with the careful preparation of the Organizing Committee in terms of facilities, professional equipment and training efforts, the athletes will compete enthusiastically and excitedly on the green track and will achieve the highest results," Mr. Tu said.
The tournament is organized to celebrate important political events of the country, and at the same time create opportunities for athletes to rub shoulders and improve their professional qualifications. This is also an opportunity for the coaching staff of the teams to evaluate the force, select excellent rowers to supplement the national team, and prepare for regional and international tournaments in the coming time.
