Phase 2 of the 2024 National Volleyball Championship for women has entered its 4th day of competition in Lao Cai province. In addition to the enthusiastic atmosphere from the fans and the exciting matches, this phase also received attention because of the high-quality foreign players.
One of the best foreign players since the beginning of phase 2 until now is Sharon Chepchumba of Duc Giang Chemicals. Although she has just arrived in Vietnam not long ago, the Kenyan player has shown good integration with her teammates at the new club.
Chepchumba always knows how to speak up at the right time in Duc Giang Chemicals' matches. The African foreign player plays a stable defense and scores diversely in attack. She combines well with the setter, scoring important points. In Duc Giang Chemicals' 3-1 victory over LPB Ninh Binh (evening of November 9), Chepchumba enthusiastically followed the block, causing the opponent's attackers such as Bich Tuyen, Dang Thi Hong, Nguyen Trinh or Warisara to have difficulty, even being broken.
Chepchumba's brilliance helped coach Pham Van Long's team significantly improve their position on the rankings, ranking 5th. They have 11 points, narrowing the gap with the 4th ranked team, LPBank Ninh Binh, to 1 point.
Another foreign player who also played well in the recent matches is Jana Kulan (Information Corps).Although she is 37 years old, Kulan is still considered one of the best foreign players in this year's season. She has proven her class with powerful shots as well as a great scoring efficiency after 2 matches of the Information Corps.
In the match against Duc Giang Chemicals, the Azerbaijani foreign player scored 44 points, and in the match against VTV Binh Dien Long An, Kulan also scored 32 points after 4 sets. However, Jana Kulan's brilliance seems to have made the Information Corps team too dependent on her.The domestic players of the army team have not been able to shine as expected. This has caused coach Pham Minh Dung's team to have no wins after 2 matches.
In addition to the two prominent names above, phase 2 also witnessed foreign players such as Warisara Seetaloed (LPBank Ninh Binh), Joyce Agbolossou (VTV Binh Dien Long An), Yeliz Başa (Quang Ninh) or Liu Yanhan (Long Son Thanh Hoa Cement) shine. These players all play in their strong attacking position.
With their superior height and experience playing in Europe, the above foreign players are important explosives in the squads of the teams. Their presence enhances the quality of the tournament, attracts the attention of fans, and especially makes the championship race more fierce than ever.
