On the evening of August 14, at the Quang Tri Provincial Sports Center Stadium, Dong Thuan ward, the 1st Quang Tri Provincial Sports Festival, 2025 - 2026 officially opened, with the participation of more than 2,500 officials, coaches, athletes, referees and people.
The first Quang Tri Provincial Sports Festival is organized in the context of the province implementing a 2-level local government model, with the goal of continuing to promote the mass sports movement and discover and select high-performance athletes.
Before the opening ceremony, 78/78 communes, wards, and special zones in the province had organized from 5 - 9 sports in the grassroots level Sports Festival program, reaching 100%. Of which, 55 localities organized the opening ceremony.
At the provincial level, the Congress organizes competitions in 18 sports, with 140 sets of medals. After the province's merger, there are 106 delegations and more than 3,500 athletes and coaches participating in competitions in 14 sports.
Competitions are organized in many localities in both the North and South of Quang Tri province, including sports such as karate, table tennis, badminton, traditional martial arts, cycling, cross country, traditional boat racing, football, athletics, volleyball, swimming, pickleball...
Bringing competitions to many localities aims to create conditions for people to access and cheer for sports activities, and at the same time contribute to effectively exploiting sports facilities at the grassroots level.
The opening ceremony was solemnly held, with the participation of 82 delegations from communes, wards, agencies, and units. Through the Congress, Quang Tri province assessed the mass physical education and sports movement, athlete training, facilities and sports activities at the grassroots level, thereby continuing to orient the development of the movement in the coming time.
